RUS x Sebit Min

Sebit Min, a Brooklyn-based designer, seamlessly juggles her roles as a freelance Art Director and Book Designer while skillfully crafting exquisite pieces in porcelain (explore and purchase her ceramic creations here!). In this collaboration, Sebit has ingeniously tapped into the core theme of Raw Edges' collection—celebrating the allure of imperfections and embracing vulnerability. The result is a trio of precious flower-shaped boxes, showcasing the delicate beauty within the RUS color palette.

Where’s home for you?
Home is where I have access to a kitchen, with the tools and ingredients I'm familiar with, with furniture and objects that bring me comfort and joy. Ideally a friend or two nearby so we can meet up for spontaneous coffee or dinner. I can make a home anywhere as long as I have those things (and my partner).

What led you to start working with ceramics?
I felt glued to my screen and wanted to do something that breaks out of the habit, and to make something with my hands. The process is really primitive and intuitive—almost like playing with play-do as a child. The pure satisfaction I get from making something from scratch with my own two hands is my main motivation.

What’s your inspiration for this collaboration?

The textures, colors, shapes of RUS. The preciousness, the coziness of it, all the while being practical.

the rawness of the collection aligned quite nicely with my ceramic practice, which embraces the imperfect wobbliness.

How do you embrace vulnerability in your work?
It's practically impossible to be perfect when hand-building something with porcelain, a body of clay that is known to be fickle. It's a natural part of the process and I never strive for perfection, and accept that the vulnerability is what makes it unique.

Do you find useful following a routine or do you prefer to follow your emotional impulses?

I have a general routine but always listen to my body, my mood, my mind, and allow flexibility with that.

How would you describe RUS universe in three words?

Precious, cozy, practical.
